Thanks to Bonkers for donating 211 pounds of food to Project Topeka through its Fill the Pantry campaign. Bonkers patrons received a $10 credit for donating food for the seven food pantries supported by Project Topeka.
Did you know that a variety of studies published in leading journals have found that children who go to school hungry have lower academic performance, lower attendance rates and more behavior issues than other students?
In order to reduce these problems, Project Topeka has developed the Fun Food Friday program to provide 100% of kids at an elementary school with a weekend food sack. The program is designed to eliminate the stigma attached to receiving food assistance and help improve kids performance in school.
In the 2018-2019 school year, we tested the program at Randolph Elementary with overwhelming success. According to the principal at Randolph Elementary, the school saw increased academic performance, increased engagement, increased attendance, and the elimination of the stigma attached to food assistance. Kids were excited to receive the bags each week and no student was left out.

Due to the success of the program, this school year, Project Topeka is proud to bring Fun Food Fridays to Randolph Elementary, Lowman Hill Elementary, and Highland Park Central Elementary!
Each Friday during the school year, every student at each school will receive a Fun Food Fridays bag to take home to help them get through the weekend.
